I know you all know that walking is beneficial for your health. It is probably the best exercise out there because it is easy on the joints and you can control how fast you go, making it low impact or high impact. But did you know that walking is also great for the mind!
I have been experiencing some high stress the last few days and I just couldn't seem to get out of my own head. You all know exactly how this can effect the body. My entire body feels like a piece of paper, all wadded up, tense and achy.
Suddenly, I got this urge to just go for a walk. Now, I have to tell you, I am so out of shape. I haven't exercised in so long, I don't even know if I remember how. But I put on my headphones and got going.
I had no path or destination, I just went where the where the wind took me. It was a beautiful day, a thunderstorm was rolling in, the air was fresh on my skin and the scenery was beautiful as I made my way more toward the countryside.
My path took me to a friend's home that they are in the process of building so I thought I would check out the progress. I got the tour, the house was beautiful and I had a really nice and positive visit with my friend. We sat out on their porch, I played with her kids, rode a 4-wheeler, held 2 bunny rabbits they have and took in all the scenery of their 10 acres. I was so happy for her and it reminded me just how much I want my own home in the country!
Then, on the way home I saw a beautiful whale tail cloud. I felt like a million bucks, walking with so much more enthusiasm than I did when I first started my journey.
I am getting to a point here. This ordinary walk turned into a beautiful journey. I got out of my head, I focused on beauty and laughter and my friend's joy. My body loosened up and my head was clear. It was amazing!
So, what I am trying to say...GO FOR A WALK! You just may end up finding some inner happiness, if only for a moment. But when you are in a bad state of mind and you feel as if the end is nowhere in sight, just take one step at a time and you will find that each step gets you closer to your destination!
