I want to introduce you all to my horses! I own 3 appaloosas that I love dearly! Fritzy (Fritzy Six Shooter), is my 14 year old mare! She's a doll! She is very gentle and has a calm demeanor and she will let anyone ride her! I have owned her for about 3 years. I bought her in foal and I was so excited to have a baby foal running around. On Mother's Day 2013, I went out to check on her and I thought she was showing signs of foaling but I had to work that night (I worked 10p-6a) so I was praying everything would go ok or she would hold out. When I went out the next morning, I was devastated to find out that the foal had passed away. I am not sure what happened, if he might have been stillborn or maybe red bag. “Red bag delivery” is a layperson's term for premature separation of the placenta prior to or during a mare's foaling." I had no idea what to do for her, we cried together with her head on my shoulder. I went back to my house and got on one of my Facebook horse pages. I explained in a post what had happened and asked if anyone had any advice for me. One person commented back that there was a lady who had an orphan foal and was desperately trying to find a mare who might have lost a foal to try and nurse this foal. She contacted me immediately and told me that the foal would probably die because she had just lost her Mother and she wouldn't eat at all. What a small world we live in, it turns out that this lady, Laurie, used to own my mare, Fritzy! So, in short, she brought Mesa, the foal to Fritzy and the outcome was wonderful. Fritzy ended up taking Mesa in as her own and nursed her back to health. They became inseparable and I ended up buying Mesa so they could be together! In the meantime, we had Fritzy bred back to a stud called Nick. He was a beautiful 2 year old buckskin appaloosa. We weren't 100% sure that he would produce a foal because he was only 2 but a year later, on May 8, 2014, Fritzy foaled a beautiful blanketed Palomino stud colt that I named Mikey. It was truly a blessed moment when I watched her foal and I even helped pull Mikey out. Fritzy is an amazing Mother! Even though I have no experience training horses or foals, for that matter, Mesa and Mikey have been very easy to work with and train! I have done ground work with both Mikey and Mesa and they have both been saddled. Neither one has ever acted out and they both are eager to learn and are very calm and gentle with every new thing I throw at them! Mesa, who is now 2 1/2 years old has let me sit on her with a saddle on. I am taking it slow with both of them. I introduce things slowly and they have never been scared, not once. They trust me. They have taught me a lot and has given me so much confidence in myself. Working with these beautiful animals has been a truly amazing experience! I don't claim to be a professional trainer and I certainly wouldn't try telling anyone I could train their horses but I feel like I have done a great job with my own horses! They still have a long ways to go and I will need help finishing them out but I am so grateful that I have been able to do as much as I have with them! There are so many benefits from being around and working with horses. I believe anyone could benefit from the experience!!!
